BASIC CAKE AND STABLE FROSTING WORKSHOP

In 2017, I promised myself to do things out of my comfort zone.  Thanks to blogging, I am already exposing myself to various activities that I don't normally do.  Like baking for instance.

I was so excited when I was invited to the "Basic Cake and Stable Frosting Workshop" by Chef Edward Mateo at the BREVILLE® Headquarters in Balintawak, Quezon City.

As a wellness and health enthusiast, it is good to know that since 1932, BREVILLE® has manufactured appliances to solve our everyday kitchen dilemmas. BREVILLE® is the leading Australian kitchen brand that banks on user-friendly designs and innovations, providing us with products that not only make the process easier, but also, make food and drinks taste even better.

For the workshop, Chef Edward used two of Breville's outstanding products -- the Scraper Mixer Pro and the Smart Oven.

The innovative Scraper Beater wipes the sides and bottom of the bowl with every turn, cutting mixing time by up to 60%*. Not only does it mix ingredients better, but there's now no need to stop and scrape down the bowl with a spatula.

This is the first compact oven with Element IQ™, the technology that controls heating elements to suit whatever you are cooking. Simply select your cooking program and adjust to taste and this smart appliance will deliver the right power at just the right time to each of its 5 elements. The 22 - liter Smart Oven™ also suggests the use of convection and makes adjustments for fresh or frozen ingredients.

Chef Edward first showed us how a Chocolate Cake should be -- super moist!  He said that it is good to use canola oil for this recipe because "hindi ito natutulog", thus -- there are no lumps in the cake, and it retains its softness.  He also shared that the secret to the perfect chocolate cake is good quality ingredients, knowing the right temperature and proper mixing.

And I tell you -- I sampled Chef Edward's chocolate cake and its truly moist, soft and delish.

He also demonstrated three kinds of frostings:  Chocolate Mousse, Chocolate Ganache and my favorite -- Coffee Buttercream.  Let's all be happy, dear readers -- because I am sharing the recipes with you all!

There are long days ahead and for all of you who are thinking of what to do during the Holy Week Vacay... Try baking!  Happy baking... and happy cake decorating guys  :)
