GET TO KNOW THE 2020 CENTURY TUNA EVERYBOD SUPERBOD GRAND WINNERS

In a landmark event hailed as a strong and successful finish amid the pandemic, Century Tuna Superbods 2020 named nursing student and ESL instructor Samantha Ashley Lo and fitness coach and professional model Sam Ajdani as the Century Tuna Everybod Superbod title holders. The most anticipated health and fitness event of the year was also a momentous occasion as it set the standards for future online events in the new normal.

Held at the Blue Leaf Cosmopolitan in Quezon City, the finals event followed strict adherence to the FDCP-DOH-DOLE safety protocols for film and audio-visual shoots.

“We needed to rise up to the challenge. We knew it was going to be tough but we stayed focused and if we’re able to pull this off successfully then at least we are able to provide a template for the industry to learn from and use. We soldiered on despite the challenges to show that it can be done,” said Century Pacific Food Inc. EVP & COO Greg Banzon. He also added, “It’s important to stage the event to provide inspiration and a good benchmark for the country to put health, wellness and fitness as the top priority.”

The success of the event amid the pandemic made their victory even more memorable for both Samantha (27) and Sam (30). Sam, who is a professional commercial model, admitted that one of the most challenging part of the competition was trying to stay healthy given the restrictions of the pandemic.   Meanwhile, Samantha, who is a former Miss Grand International Philippines winner, had to strengthen her focus and remain creative in her home workouts, even when she could not go the gym. Their persistence and commitment to stay strong and focused paid off when they were proclaimed winners of the biggest health and fitness competition in the country.

Samantha and Sam bested 25 other Superbods candidates and will each take home Php 500,000 tax-free cash and other amazing prizes. Both winners passed rigorous digital challenges required during the competition to emerge as the new ambassadors of Century Tuna Superbods 2020—health and fitness advocates who are passionate in promoting health and wellness as an everyday commitment especially during these trying times. They are also exceptional individuals who remain optimistic and believe in getting back up again even after falling so many times.

Meanwhile, the runners-up were Superbod 2020 Stunner Candice Ramos and Superbod 2020 Ageless Erie Matic. Other candidates who took home special awards were Shirley Garcia, Zai Ebido, Enzo Bonoan, Samantha Purvor, Philippe Magalona, Nelson Banzuela, Key Trajano, Albert Lorenzo, and Grace Del Rosario.

The 25 finalists were all strong contenders, showcasing inspiring traits and skills to encourage themselves and their fellow Filipinos to keep going, and remain healthy and strong during these trying times.

The finalists were judged by a distinguished panel of judges. Joining Century Pacific Food Inc. EVP & COO Greg Banzon, Century Tuna marketing director Carlo Endaya, triathlete and SEA Games gold medalist Nikko Huelgas, GMA Network senior assistant vice president for alternative productions Gigi Santiago-Lara, Isabelle Daza, Alice Dixson, Sarah Lahbati, Ina Raymundo, and DJ Toni Tony.

The health and fitness competition was relaunched last July 25 with a more inclusive and relevant #StayStrongPilipinas theme. To signal its resumption, Century Tuna released a rousing video via its official Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/centurytuna), featuring Century Tuna celebrity ambassadors Nadine Lustre and Alden Richards with the Superbods finalists urging everyone to stay strong and to continue pursuing their dreams of a healthier future through proper diet and exercise.

TAIWAN INTRODUCES INNOVATIVE DEVICES AND ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY FOR SENIOR HEALTH CARE

Taiwan Excellence launched recently its Smart Medical Products that are focused on the aging society.

Presented during the launch were four brands awarded for their innovative products. These are Gigantex's carbon fiber wheelchair, Merits’ foldable power wheelchair, iXensor’s point-of-care testing solution, and Leadtek’s wireless fingertip oximeter.

As the quality of medical technology improved around the world, the average age of human beings is rising. According to a 2019 United Nations report on world population aging, there were more than 703 million people aged over 65. Over the next three decades, this is seen to double to more than 1.5 billion people in 2050. This trend has been noted in an increasing number of countries and efforts have been made in coming up with long-term care policies and facilities. Demand for elderly care products, such as assistive technologies and home care service, is also projected to skyrocket.

Since 2014, Taiwan has ranked as the second largest exporter of assistive devices, where the output value of assistive devices in Taiwan has reached $930 million. Of these, mobility assistance has the largest output value that reached $354 million, or 38 percent of the total in 2019. The four Taiwan Excellence Award brands mentioned – Gigantex Composite Technologies Co., Ltd., Merits Health Products Co., Ltd., iXensor Co., Ltd., and Leadtek Research Inc. – all demonstrated their excellence in the long-term care area with the launch of their trusted healthcare products.

Taiwanese companies remain committed to designing new products with reduced product weight to create a more convenient wheelchair. Gigantex focused on carbon fiber and designed a one-piece and super-light wheelchair. Their carbon fiber wheelchair, MF012, is designed with an “H” shape that allows the user to fold it in seconds, and is considered as one of the lightest folding wheelchairs in the market. Merits' P113 YOYO foldable power wheelchair is for users who need to rely on power wheelchairs for indoor, home and short trips. Not only is it lightweight and foldable, it's also equipped with a detachable battery box. These features allow users to carry a wheelchair on different kinds of transport vehicles.

Homecare service is also essential for seniors to understand and control body conditions. Some of these innovative devices are now even able to become useful tools for detecting COVID-19. iXensor’s portable and efficient device not only provides telehealth services, but also makes significant improvements in community care and rural health care. The PixoTest® POCT system shows results in only three minutes. Now, iXensor aims to aid in the early detection of the virus and is undergoing the necessary testing. Leadtek’s wireless fingertip oximeter, on the other hand, is a very convenient all-in-one device that measures oxygen saturation and pulse rate. The device comes with a full-colored OLED display and its battery can last more than 18 hours. Low blood oxygen is said to be a possible factor in COVID-19 suspects, and the oximeter allows people to do a preliminary test at home.

All of these innovative and reliable products provide better care for users and enable long-term care facilities to save time, costs and improve services. Taiwanese companies are also confident in providing the best possible care for global users as the older age group grows.

DIFFERENT FLAVORS OF NICOTINE-FREE POUCHES

A small pouch containing no tobacco is often called nicotine-free pouch. Instead of using tobacco, the pouches are made of food-grade fillers or different type of ground-up leaves added with salt, water and artificial flavors.

These pouches are very popular in different parts of the world with different brands offering different flavors such as peppermint, tobacco, melon, lime and strawberry.

Are you curious about these nicotine pouches? Let's take a look at some of the different flavors they offer.

DRYFT

Dryft is a brand from Sweden and it is available in a variety of flavors such as cinnamon, coffee, citrus, spearmint, dragonfruit, peppermint and wintergreen.

Cinnamon-flavored is spicy-sweet and has a natural smell of cinnamon. The coffee-flavored variant has the aroma of black coffee and a touch of sweetness from caramel, meanwhile the citrus variant has a tart flavor mixed with orange and lemon. spearmint has cooling effect and has an aroma of spearmint leaves. Dragonfruit flavor is lightly tart and its aroma is a mixture of melon and kiwi fruit, while Wintergreen is mild, and has a sweet smell of wintergreen.

LYFT

Lyft is a nice white pouch that is lean and clean.  It is extracted directly from tobacco and then mixed with other tree fibers, natural flavors and water. Lyft is the first 100% "white" pouch available in the market.

Lyft is available in the following delicious flaors: Mint, Ice Cool, Blueberry Licorice, Lime, Melon and Epok. Epok sounds unique right? But its flavor was found to not be lacking at all compared to the original Epok which is slight spicy.

Gretchen Ho inspires young girls to dream big through World Vision’s 1,000 Girls campaign

Gretchen Ho is the official ambassador in the Philippines for World Vision’s campaign, “1,000 Girls”. This year’s theme is “#GirlsCan”. By focusing on issues faced by young girls today due to the on-going pandemic, the challenge is to respond to their most urgent needs to help realize their full potential and have a better future.

Gretchen’s support for this campaign is rooted on her belief that every girl has the capacity to be empowered and to overcome, but she also acknowledged the importance of support from family and friends. “It isn’t always easy to fight on your own. That’s why we need to provide them with support, guidance, resources and opportunities to be able to maximize their potential. Many girls are at a disadvantage because of their economic background or family set-ups. Sometimes, the only thing that a girl needs is a helping hand,” said Gretchen.

Through World Vision’s child sponsorship program, these young girls will have access to learning and development opportunities that are sustainable, community-driven, and long-term solutions.

Gretchen sees education as one of the best ways to equip the youth. “Through education, a world of opportunities opens up for a young girl. If that young girl is able to build her self-confidence through those opportunities, there is potential to become a leader,” explained Gretchen. “In today’s world, where there is so much injustice, inequality, hatred and discrimination, we need the strengths of a female to overcome. We need more female voices to be heard”.

World Vision partners with different stakeholders including the local community to build resilient families and create an enabling environment for the children. By allowing them to have access to education, nutritious food, and clean water, to enjoy quality health services, and to participate in spiritual nurture activities, these young girls are being empowered so they too can one day be agents of change.

“World Vision is excited to share with everyone an opportunity to help children meet their needs. The 1000 Girls campaign is one that highlights empowerment for education, health and protection. Your support will give hope to every child especially during this time,” said Rommel Fuerte, World Vision’s National Director.

“My message to all the young girls out there is — I believe you can make it. Don’t be afraid to dream big. Make the most out of what you have. If you have less in life, ask for help. If you have more in life, help others. There is room for success for everyone. Believe in yourself, be resourceful, be creative and you will conquer,” shared Gretchen.
