MY TRAVEL GOAL: GOING ON AN EPIC ROAD TRIP!

sponsored post

As a family, we always go on annual vacations.  It is our bonding time with our children when they are on school break.  It can be a quick getaway to a nearby beach or a 2-hour plane ride to a distant island.

I have always liked long drives over plane rides.  It gives me more time to enjoy the sceneries and go on several foodtrips. It is also more adventurous to go on road trips -- you will never know what happy surprises await while you are on the road;  Detours may mean new discoveries on food, culture and local products; and I don’t have to deal with the two hours waiting time on airports and another 45-90 minutes of flying time. Then another 30 minutes to get out of the place.  Road trips are awesome!

ROAD TRIP ESSENTIALS:  THE 3 Ps OF ROAD TRIPPING!

1.  PRACTICAL PACKING.  Always pack light, with minimal clothes and ample gadgets. Do include gadgets like camera and tripod to capture memories of your road trip. If you have babies on board, do not forget to include and install car seats.  This is very essential for the safety of your little ones.  Learn more about this safety feature on https://www.cars.com/news/car-seat-check/

Remember if you pack light and only carry the essentials, you will save on gas and have lots of room to bring souvenirs from the road trip.

2.  PLAN YOUR ROUTE.  It pays to plan ahead which road or highway to take.  You can either choose the shortest route or you may go the long drive with plenty of side trips to explore.  Up to you, but you need a solid plan – so you can prepare for gas, stop-overs and food breaks.

3.  PREPARE YOUR RIDE.  Before you roll the windows down, play your favorite driving music and start your adventure – make all the necessary preventive maintenance needed by your vehicle. This is very important to be assured of you and your passengers’ safety during the trip.  It will be a lot of stress if your vehicle suddenly stops in the middle of nowhere and you have no idea why its busted.

MRS.WISE's NEW MISSION POSSIBLE

I received a couple of days ago... a very intriguing pseudo-briefcase.  Thought it was an invite to "Deal or No Deal"!  Joke!

But seriously... the briefcase brought 3 things to my mind:  One, I am pretty sure what is inside is very important that needs my utmost attention as a mom;  Two, the briefcase connotes "serious business" there is a sense of urgency!  And three, when you see the phrase "license to kill" on the briefcase -- you will automatically open it to find out what is inside!

MY MISSION AS A MOM:

Mommy-hood is a 24-7, round-the-clock job. If the tough gets going, you cannot really just quit. You just go on, work hard at it, for your family's sake.

One of the toughest issues a mom has to face is taking care of her family's health.  Yes, I admit.  I get too praning when I read about virus and bacteria and all those emerging illnesses.  If only I have mommy superpower to shield my family against all of these, I will do it.  But that's far from reality.

All I can do is somehow prevent these diseases and illnesses to penetrate our home.  This
is my challenging mission as a mom.

ENEMIES TO DEAL WITH: MOSQUITO, COCKROACH, FLY and MORE!

No mommy would want her family to be infected with Dengue, Zika or Chikungunya from mosquito bites.  But reality is, infected mosquitoes maybe hovering around our homes.  As moms, we need to do something urgent.  And fast!

K.I.L.L.  (KNOCKDOWN INSECTS LIQUIDATION LEAGUE)

And because I accepted this challenge of knocking down harmful insects and mosquitoes in Mrs.Wise's household... I vow to do the following:

  • Maintain a clean surrounding. Inside and outside the house.  Cockroaches thrive in dirty corners because they feed on crumbs, leftover food, dirt and trash.  They also like starchy materials that are left lying around like glue and paste.  Mosquitoes love stagnant water in uncovered containers.  I need to throw all the unused plastic ice cream containers in my garden, that I use in propagating seeds.
  • Need to add some more  mosquito repelling plants in the garden. The basil seems to be working on one area. Pandan leaves left inside the cabinets are also proven to shoo away cockroaches.
  • Use an aerosol insect spray to help eliminate problematic insects and mosquitoes. I like using Advanced Aerosol Multi-Insect Killer.  Why? Because it delivers 100% knockdown of cockroaches and mosquitoes that cause illnesses, especially dengue. Best of all it is 100% odorless so it has no irritating smell after spraying.

  • I have been using Advanced for more than a year now... and I can vouch that it is really odorless. Of course I still practice precautionary measures -- I make sure that we leave the area that is to be sprayed. I close all windows and doors, for at least 30 minutes.  When we return, doors and windows are opened for proper ventilation.

MRS.WISE's LITTLE SECRET:

I am an ADVANCED Aerosol Multi Insect Killer "hoarder".  Because last summer, the house was infested with ants.  Big. Red. Ants. They were everywhere.  So I used Advanced to at least shoo them away.  Then came a horrific discovery -- termite trail in one corner of the house, they destroyed my native box. And guess what -- termites were dead in just one spray of Advanced.  Hope they were eliminated for good.  But I am also doing a mental note -- maybe its time to call on the Termite Control experts next summer  :)

CONFESSION OF A BASIL GROWER

I am extremely proud of my basil.

Why?  I started from scratch.  As in, from seeds.  Got my basil from  MNLGrowkit.   From this mother plant, I researched on how to propagate my basil.

3 months after transplanting

PROPAGATING BASIL FROM CUTTINGS:

Very easy.  I just cut around 4 inches from the mother plant.  I choose the one on top, that has not yet flowered.  Then I put the cuttings into water, wait a couple days for the roots to appear.  And then they are all ready to be transplanted into the garden.

Sometimes, when I get too busy, I will completely forget about my rooting basil.  Then I will discover that the roots have grown too long.  No worries... longer roots  means stronger root system.  This has a higher success to grow healthy when transplanted.

WHAT HAVE I DISCOVERED ABOUT MY BASIL:

That they love direct sunlight.  I placed them on the east side of the garden, where there is sunlight for 5 hours a day.  They did not wilt in summer as long as you water them at least twice a day.

Basil shoo away weeds.  My basil is planted side by side my tomatoes.  The tomatoes were infested with too much weeds that I needed to deweed twice a week.  But lo and behold! My basil didn't need de-weeding.  Very minimal weed growth.

The more I prune or harvest, the healthier they become.

I just so LOVE the idea of just picking fresh basil leave whenever I need it.  It gives me o much happiness, when the hubby is cooking spaghetti sauce and he blurts out, "hey, let's put some basil" and I giddily go to the garden, clip as many as my heart desires, wash it a bit, and put it on home cooked spaghetti sauce. YUM!

EMNACE's GRILL: BUDGET FRIENDLY RESTAURANT FOR THE FAMILY

As a lifestyle mommy blogger, I like discovering new places where I can bring my family. for either lunch or dinner.  Especially my teens.  It is getting harder to satisfy their taste buds. My son likes Pinoy dishes.  My daughter wants sushi, maki and pizza.  Me and the hubby, we just basically eat what they order... hahaha!

Good thing, we were invited to the first anniversary of Emnace's Grill in Congressional Avenue.  I will tell you why it fits my family to a T!

REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD VISIT EMNACE's GRILL

  • GOOD FOOD:  If you love Pinoy dishes, there are lots of choices in Emnace's Grill. Chicken, seafood, pork and beef vegetables -- they all have it.  What I rave about their food - it has no MSG!  The dishes are cooked by certified chefs, basing it from secret recipes given by the family, who hails from Tarlac. The dishes are basically inspired by the family's roots - Ilocano, Kapampangan, Bicolano and Chinese.
